Last Christmas, I got an excellent lightening deal from Amazon.com. It was for the Little Tikes Castle Adventures Sandbox. I was thinking how perfect it would be during the winter for what Tyler refers to as Squishy Sand; otherwise known as Kinetic Sand. It comes with a lid and would be the perfect size for play.
Now that it is warm enough to be outside, I decided to move the castle sandbox to our backyard. Tyler wasted no time dumping all his “guys” into the sand as well as himself. He loved not only role-playing with the guys, but he also had me playing along to ‘which guy is hiding and where is he hiding?’ A game he made up himself.
When he seemed to be losing interest, I told him it was time to give his guys a bath after playing in the sand. I filled a bowl up of warm water and he loved washing all the sand off of each of his guys. We played this outside game for over an hour! It was a lot of fun and often I got to sit on the sidelines and enjoy a few sips of my coffee.
One thing I did notice though is he doesn’t have as much squishy sand as I thought and at up to $15 for only 16 oz of sand, it will cost way too much to give him at least double the amount that he has in there now. I searched Pinterest and found a recipe to make my own Kinetic/Moon Sand. Here is the link to the sand I will be creating from UK Mommy blogger, Anna at The Imagination Tree. I’m running out to the store today to get supplies – I can’t wait to see how it comes out!
