The City Advent Calendar is the one that I chose each year. I'm also getting my grandson his own set this year as well (he turns five this month and is doing builds way beyond his age level already. I had also picked up a Hot Wheels for him but, once I saw this set, I decided to give him the hot wheels for his birthday month instead of for the holidays. This year is another fun one with lots of builds and five minifigures (this does not include the robot or the snowman). Last year there were six but I am okay with one less as some of the builds are going to be lots of fun. The box refers to three other Lego kits that potentially coordinate with the toys in the calendar. Those kits are all really expensive, so if you are looking at this for a child and want something to go with it, try looking at some of the smaller kits that are available. The product description shows a breakout of the actual items included. I opened my set to verify that each window had a bag (I've had a kit miss one before.) I've also had pieces missing or a bag swapped out. Lego is great at replacing whatever is necessary if yo contact them right away.In addition to this set, one of my other favorites in Lego is to put together Christmas dioramas with the special winter scene sets and the City Advent calendars. I have a traditional train but may want to do the Harry Potter version this year. I'm starting to add these around my modular building sets to have an entire town. Legos are simply a lot of fun to play with and my grandchildren are having a blast with them. At their house, they've taken over the dining room as their Lego build room and they are only almost five and two years old.Be sure not to throw away the box as it is part of the fun. This year the box opens up an area for vehicles to play. There is a monster truck track, a helicopter landing pad, a race car straight track and a view from space. While the area is not coordinated together, it should prove lots of fun for kids to play with each of the elements in the set.

Bought this for my 8 year old. He loves his legos and I purchased him the Lego Movie Creator kit for Christmas this year so I thought this would be great for Christmas scenes and additional characters. We're only on day 3 but so far we are happy with it. Each "door" has a plastic bag with the pieces inside and instructions are shown on the inside of that door. He's built a rocketship, a man, and a car so far and he's anxious for the next day as soon as he's finished. I've read a lot of reviews by people who are serious lego collectors who were not happy with this set. These are people that know all of the different characters, pieces, etc. I am not that person. My kids love building and playing with them so my knowledge is limited to how much they enjoy them. I can tell you that this is a hit with them. I should also add that the character I showed in the pics has two faces, so they can choose which one shows......."happy go lucky face" or "oh boy" face. My kids thought that was a cool feature.

I purchase this every year for my nephew & Oct. / Nov. kids gifts as it’s something fun for them to look forward to. They get so many toys that the parents appreciate a gift to open later. I have also used them as rewards for the kids as an incentive (good behavior/bringing home a complete work packet from school) even though they are Christmas themed the doors are numbered so you can use it anytime. Each day is individually wrapped so each build stays together until you are ready to build. Sometimes the pieces build on each other but they are all independent builds as well. Most of them are extremely simple and don’t take long to build but the anticipation each day is the real beauty of this calendar. I do feel like this set is more for boys. The Lego friends set is great for girls. It has more of the food and little animal figures which my daughter loved.
Although the calendars are a little pricey, I feel like it is overall a good deal since the kids seem to enjoy each piece more than buying a larger set.

This is our second year with a LEGO City Advent calendar. We love them! I have 2 boys (ages 6 and 3) and they look forward to this every night! They are so excited when they get to open one of the doors to find out what they get to build. The quality is great, as it's LEGOs and the directions are detailed enough on the inside of the door that we can build them. My boys love to play with them and make up their own stories. Some of them come with extra pieces too, so that's great. Especially the little mug of hot chocolate as the hot chocolate piece doesn't seem to stay in the mug! We would definitely recommend!

My 6 year old grandson received the 2019 edition for an early Christmas gift. He loves Legos, but didn't have many people or other unique items. He loved this and couldn't wait to open a new door every day to see what new surprise awaited him. He would build the new Lego item while eating breakfast. I spotted this 2018 version and bought it to put away for Christmas 2020. A few items are the same, but there are many new surprises for him to build. It adds to his collection of regular Legos and he loves designing new creations from his imagination.
Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2019
My only 2 complains are 1) the cardboard outside is not glued to the foam frame inside. So when we had our kids put their daily creation back behind the door at the end of the day to keep from losing them, they would often fall behind the cardboard to the compartment below. And sometimes it was stuck behind a door that couldn't be opened for a few days or more. On Christmas Eve they were allowed to take them all out, play with them, then put them in their new permanent home (Tupperware), but until then there were few tears about lost pieces.
    2) some of the creations, well... left a lot to be desired and were boring. They waited and waited for a few of the fun ones, then groaned about the boring ones, one I couldn't even figure out what it was supposed to be. Bonus, imagination usage, I guess...
Otherwise I was happy, my kids had a unique countdown this year and I did not have to be a pinterest mom to do it. Definitely thinking of doing a Lego advent calendar again. My kids were happy over all, so I call it a win.

We purchase a lego advent calendar each year. They never disappoint. Was a deal of the day when I ordered so was roughly $15 less than normal price. I think it is still worth the regular price and would have purchased even if it wasn’t on sale. The only thing I don’t like is that we enjoy counting the days down, but the calendar is made to start at 1 and finish on 24. We will continue starting with 24 and working down to 1 for as many more years as we purchase this calendar. Recommended to others to enjoy.

Not as great as previous years but this one was still a hit! We loved the discovery every day leading up to Christmas! I just wish Lego came out with more than one Lego city advent calendar every year so our boys could each get one without getting repeats. Baby#4 is coming and I don't think they'll all share next year. We would have bought the Lego Friends one for one of them this year, but that set was just AWFUL this year, No animals or characters included. This one was much better, but wish it came with more pieces you couldn't find in a regular lego set.
